Cape Comorin - Kanyakumari - India

Kanyakumari was earlier known by the name of 'Cape Comorin' during the British rule in India.

As per geographical definitions a cape is a piece of land that sticks out into the sea or water. Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India, is geographically such a land that is surrounded on 3 sides by the waters of the 3 seas, the Bay of Bengal on the east, the Indian ocean on the south, and the Arbian sea on the west.

The name Cape Comorin for this place seems to have been derived from the local name of the diety of this place, Kumari Amman (goddess Kanyakumari devi).

The Cape Comorin (Kanyakumari) is a famous tourist destination. The major attractions of Cape Comorin are the 'Sangam'-the confluence of the seas, Kanyakumari temple, the spectacular sunrise and sunsets that can be seen from here.

The place is well developed as a tourist destination, and several hotels in Kanyakumari (Cape Comorin) are available, meet the accomodation needs of the visiting tourists.
